ABOUT PERIOD OF CHANGE
Period of Change was born from rage and reverence—my fury at the systems that kept me in the dark, and my reverence for the wisdom of my body that emerged once I began to reclaim what had always been mine.
I was thirty years old when I miscarried my first (very wanted) pregnancy. That loss opened a door I hadn’t expected: I needed to understand my body in order to conceive again, so I picked up Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. That book changed my life. Suddenly, so many things clicked into place that I had lived a lifetime not understanding. I was furious that no one had ever taught me this. I felt robbed that this wisdom had been systematically withheld from me and from all women.
And I knew immediately: I didn’t want my child—or anyone else’s—to have to wait until adulthood to receive this crucial knowledge. I’ve spent over twenty years following this passion: studying the intricacies of the female hormonal cycle—from puberty to menopause—not only staying attuned to emerging research, but also bearing witness to the cultural awakening of women reclaiming their birthright of cycle wisdom as sacred and powerful.
THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT BLEEDING . . . THIS IS ABOUT POWER
My work as a menstrual rewilding expert isn’t rooted in a fascination with blood. It’s rooted in the sobering truth that the female body is where patriarchy intersects most violently with our lives. The attempt to control us begins here. The shame, the secrecy, the misinformation—it all serves one purpose: to sever us from our own power and agency.
But when girls and women know their bodies—truly know them—we become infinitely harder to control. We claim our body sovereignty. We recognize our cycles as sacred. We begin to live in harmony with our inner rhythm, and learn how to align with our innate power.
THIS WORK IS URGENT
Period of Change is now more needed than ever before. We are living through a time when bodily autonomy for females of all ages is under assault. The right to understand and make decisions about our bodies is being stripped away by a toxic patriarchal regime that is afraid of informed, empowered women. That’s not a coincidence; it’s a strategy. And it’s one we are here to dismantle.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Most of us didn’t grow up with open, honest conversations about puberty or periods. We got silence, or shame, or just enough information to get by. Period of Change exists to shift that—so our daughters grow up knowing their bodies are powerful, not problematic, right from the start.
When a mother chooses a new path, it has a ripple effect.
It changes how her daughter sees herself.
It changers how she raises her sons.
It changes the legacy she passes on.
Here’s what you’ll find in Period of Change:
An inclusive, age-appropriate approach to puberty and menstruation.
Resources that are honest, body-positive, and shame-free.
A supportive space for mothers to reflect, connect, learn the information they may have never had, and heal their own stories.
THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE
1 in 2 girls say they feel embarrassed or ashamed about their period.
75% of girls report not learning enough about their changing bodies before puberty.
Only 22% of U.S. parents feel “very comfortable” talking to their kids about puberty.
Nearly 3 in 4 moms say they’re repeating the silence they experienced growing up.
100% of mothers in Period of Change report feeling more confident and connected after participating.
When girls learn about puberty in a supportive setting, they are less anxious, more curious, and more self-assured.
PERIOD OF CHANGE WAS CREATED TO RECLAIM OUR:
Body sovereignty
Cycle literacy
Menstrual empowerment
Sisterhood and community
Empowered embodiment
WHO THIS WORK IS FOR
This work is for mothers who want to do it differently.
For daughters standing on the threshold of womanhood.
For menstruators who are unwilling to accept the narrative that our culture perpetuates.
For families ready to break cycles of silence and shame.
For all who know that healing the future begins by tending the wounds of the past.
A NOTE ABOUT MOTHERHOOD AND IDENTITY
I raised my child, Leo — assigned female at birth — as a daughter until he shared the truth of his gender identity with me at age 14. I was not expecting to be the parent of a trans child, especially given that my work and my life had always centered so deeply on women and girls. But motherhood is about listening. It’s about loving our children as they are, not as we imagined.
It’s been over five years since that part of our journey began. Together we’ve navigated the legal, medical, and psycho-emotional terrain of the trans experience. I now feel uniquely equipped to support:
Parents of trans children/future menstruators
Trans and nonbinary youth navigating puberty and cycle care
Trans parents and caregivers of all gender expressions, as they support their children through puberty and menarche
There is no one path. But every path deserves support, dignity, and care.
