What is Period of Change?

What is Period of Change?

Period of Change is more than a puberty education program—it is a rite of passage, a reclamation of menstrual wisdom, and a healing of the mother-daughter legacy. Through workshops, guides, circles, and retreats, we prepare girls for menstruation with reverence, truth, and power—and support mothers in rewriting the stories they inherited.

Who is this for?

Who is this for?

Period of Change is designed for menstruators and future-menstruators, most often girls aged 7 and older, and their caregivers. It’s for mothers who want to support their children with love and clarity—and who may also be healing their own first period experience. Trans and non-binary kids, and gender-diverse families are welcome and held with care.

What makes this different from other puberty education programs?

What makes this different from other puberty education programs?

Unlike school programs that reduce menstruation to hygiene and inconvenience, Period of Change centers body literacy, consent, pleasure, and cyclical wisdom. We teach the whole cycle, not just “the period,” and we treat menarche as a sacred milestone—not something to fear or manage, but something to honor.

Do you talk about anatomy and hormones, or is it just ceremony and ritual?

Do you talk about anatomy and hormones, or is it just ceremony and ritual?

We do both. This is a space where science and spirit are not in opposition. Girls learn accurate, empowering information about their anatomy, hormones, cycle phases, and menstrual care options. They also participate in storytelling, creative activities, celebration, and ceremony.

What if my daughter is nervous, shy, or hasn’t started her period yet?

What if my daughter is nervous, shy, or hasn’t started her period yet?

This is exactly the right time. This experience is designed to prepare girls before their first period, so they feel confident, informed, and unafraid when it comes. Girls are never pressured to share or speak aloud if they don’t want to. We create a supportive environment where every girl is free to participate in the way that feels right for her.

What if my daughter has already started her period? Is it too late?

What if my daughter has already started her period? Is it too late?

No, it is never too late to support your daughter in her journey. Many girls come to Period of Change after menarche, and this work is just as powerful. Even if her first bleed wasn’t what you hoped, we can create a moment of reclaiming and celebration. This work is not about being on a timeline; it's about instilling wisdom and self-love at any age or stage.

Is this just for mothers and daughters? Can other caregivers attend?

Is this just for mothers and daughters? Can other caregivers attend?

Mothers are most often the ones who attend, but we welcome any loving adult who holds a mothering or caregiving role in a girl's life—stepmothers, grandmothers, aunts, guardians, or chosen family. If you’re the one walking beside her in this season, you belong here.

I feel unprepared. What if I don’t know how to talk to my daughter about periods?

I feel unprepared. What if I don’t know how to talk to my daughter about periods?

That’s exactly why this work exists. You don’t need to be perfect or have all the answers. Period of Change offers you the tools, language, and confidence to show up for your daughter with grace and truth—now and into the future. And along the way, you may find yourself healing too.

Do you offer resources for parents of boys?

Do you offer resources for parents of boys?

Yes. While the primary focus is on girls and menstruators, I believe all children deserve accurate and affirming information. I offer a Period Positive Family Guide and resources for teaching sons about menstruation with respect, empathy, and clarity. Raising period-positive boys is a radical act of cultural repair.

Are your workshops inclusive of trans and non-binary kids?

Are your workshops inclusive of trans and non-binary kids?

Yes. All gender-diverse children who menstruate are welcomed, and we use inclusive language throughout our offerings. While many of our circles are designed for girls and their mothers, I strive to create brave, welcoming spaces for all who bleed—or will bleed—and their caregivers.

I am so excited to be offering a new puberty and menarche workshop just for trans/non-binary kids in early 2026! Stay tuned for all of the details.

Why is this work so urgent right now?

Why is this work so urgent right now?

Because our daughters are growing up in a world that still shames, commodifies, and controls the female body. Because too many women are still healing from what we didn’t receive. And because cultural change begins at home. When we reclaim menstruation as sacred, we shift the legacy. When we teach girls to trust their bodies, we create a new future.
